Yann Faisant has created a set of seven sculptures – apples made of bronze and 24-carat gold, and varying in diameter from 7.6 cm to 137 cm (3 to 54 inches). They are arranged in line and the installation is called Opus Magnum.
The artist created his work based on the theory of the Golden Ratio, also known as “the divine proportion”. The conception of the work takes into account the Fibonacci sequence of numbers that aims at perfection.
The work of Yann Faisant relies on two totemic elements: “the apple”, a fruit emblematic of humanity, and the Ginkgo Biloba, or “maidenhair tree”.
Because of what it represents, the fruit, and what it is made of, bronze and gold, but also because of its dimensions and its universality, the “Golden Apple” stands at the center of Yann Faisant’s artistic vision. The Golden Apple, fruit of his labor, is at once the symbol of nature, knowledge, the forbidden fruit and freedom.
It is lead turned into gold, both the internal and the external quests, that which needs to be preserved.
